I have lived through an amazing period in our country. As a child I watched John F. Kennedy drive past me not 5 feet away in a motorcade in Colorado Springs, CO. A week later we were all crying as we watched in horror on a tv at school that he had been assassinated. Martin Luther King was later assassinated, as was John Lennon.. I saw the Berlin Wall put up and torn down. Then the Vietnam war came and went. There were hippies and Volkswagon bugs, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and the world was changing rapidly, as did my life.
I came from a dysfunctional home. My Dad was an alcoholic. Both parents worked so I felt like I was raised by babysitters. I became rebellious. Life changed for me when I was 12 and I was raped by my neighbor’s uncle, then my entire family was threatened, so I never told anyone. I married on my 16th birthday as a means to escape my dysfunctional family only to be thrust into a nightmare. The man I married was a 21 year old Vietnam vet. I learned all about domestic violence during my marriage, lost all self esteem, lost my Dad and lost my first son to SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). That is an interesting story in itself and is in my book which will be released at a later date.
On the day my son died, I was sitting on the curb outside the hospital asking God why and I was angry at Him, but I heard that oh so quiet voice of God say, “I will never take another child of yours while you are still alive”. And I believed God. But that faith would be tested, not once but twice. More on that in my book. I have 3 amazing children and 4 awesome grandchildren now.
The main point I want to convey is that God is ALWAYS true to His word. Secondly, God wants us to bear our hearts and thoughts to Him, our anger, our pain, our joy, everything. He is our Comforter through His Holy Spirit which lives within us if we are children of God. (See John 14:26 and 2 Corinthians 1:3-5) Jesus has called us “friends”. (See John 15:15) He is there for us through everything we go through. He will comfort us, give us peace, protect us even we don’t know He is doing that (and boy can I relate to this. I have a story to tell in my upcoming book that you don’t want to miss), He is our strength Philippians 4:13) and He stands before God interceding for us always and through everything we go through, bad good, or indifferent. (See Romans 34-35 Berean Study Bible).
Now I can look back and see how God provided for me, even through my bipolar crazies, helped and guided me through my depression and anxiety, through my losses and grief, through the domestic violence, and how He rejoiced with me through the good times. How truly blessed I am to be a child of God!
